This week I've put together a little Degrees of Separation Game featuring some fairly well-known actors and period dramas. This time we're starting and ending with lovely young actress Claire Foy!
How to play: Follow the degrees of separation and name the eight actors whose names are left blank below. Try to guess their names without looking up the info but if you can't you might want to use IMDb.com to help. Leave a comment with your guesses. I'll respond with your answers. Feel free to guess as many times as you'd like.
For Extra Points: Name the characters the actors play in each period drama (two characters for each actor).
Scoring: Five points for each actor's full name that you guess correctly. Five extra points for each period drama character you guess correctly. A total of 130 points is possible.
Degrees of Separation Puzzle:
Actress Claire Foy was in Upstairs, Downstairs (2010)
with _____ _____ who was in Wives & Daughters (1999)

ReplyDeleteClaire Foy was in Upstairs, Downstairs
with Keeley Hawes who was in Wives and Daughters (as Cynthia Kirkpatrick)
with Justine Waddell (as Molly Gibson) who was in Great Expectations (as Estella)
with Ioan Gruffoud (Pip) who was in Amazing Grace (as William Wilberforce)
with Romola Garai (as Barbara Spooner) or Michael Gambon (as Lord Fox) who was in Emma (Romola Garai as Emma and Michael Gambon as Mr. Woodhouse)
with Jonny Lee Miller (as Mr. Knightley) who was in Mansfield Park (as Edmund Bertram)
with Frances O' Connor (as Fanny Price) who was in The Importance of Being Earnest
with Judi Dench who was in Pride and Prejudice (as Lady Catherine)
with Matthew MacFadyen (as Darcy) who was in Little Dorrit (as Arthur Clennam)
with Claire Foy! (as Amy Dorrit)
Fun!!
Ooh! What fun!
ReplyDeleteClaire Foy was in Upstairs, Downstairs with _______ who was in Wives and Daughters with Justine Waddell who was in Great Expectations with Ioan Gruffudd who was in Amazing Grace with Romola Garai who was in Emma with Jonny Lee Miller who was in Mansfield Park with Frances...um... something who was in The Importance of Being Earnest with Judi Dench who was in Pride and Prejudice with Matthew Macfadayen who was in Little Dorrit with Claire Foy!
This is what I could remember without looking! ;)
ReplyDelete-Claire Foy (Lady Persiphone)
-( ,Cynthia)
-Justine Waddell (Molly, Estella Haversham)
-Ioan Griffud (Pip, William Wilberforce)
-Romola Garai (Barbara Spooner, Emma Woodhouse)
-Blake ? (Mr. Elton, Edmund Bertram)
-
-
-Matthew McFayden (Mr. Darcy, Arthur Clennam)
-(Amy Dorrit)
This is what I could come up with after looking online:
-Claire Foy (Lady Persiphone)
-Keeley Hawes (Lady Agnes Holland, Cynthia Kirkpatrick)
-Justine Waddell (Molly Gibson, Estella)
-Ioan Gruffudd (okay, really spelled his name wrong!) (Pip, William Wilberforce)
-Romola Garai (Barbara Spooner, Emma Woodhouse)
-Blake Ritson (Mr. Elton, Edmund Bertram)
-?? Still no clue on this one
-Judi Dench (Lady Augusta Bracknell, Lady Catherine de Bourg)
-Matthew Mcfadyen (Oops! Spelled his name wrong, too!) (Mr. Darcy, Arthur Clennam)
-Claire Foy (Amy Dorrit)
Man, that character from 'Mansfield Park" and "The Importance of Being Ernest" is going to bother me!! ;)
Hahaha, that is excessively diverting.... Miss Dashwood was very recently explaining this degrees of separation thing to me, and then this!
ReplyDeleteThere's that thinking-about-the-same-thing again! ;-)
Looks quite fun...I shall give it a try.
Okay, here I go. Claire Foy was in Upstairs, Downstairs (as Lady Persie*) with Keeley Hawes (as Lady Agnes Holland*) who was in Wives and Daughters (as Cynthia Kirkpatrick) with Justine Waddell who was in Great Expectations (as Estella Havisham) with Ioan Gruffudd* (as Phillip "Pip" Pirrip) who was in Amazing Grace with Romola Garai (as Barbara Spooner) who was in Emma (as Emma Woodhouse) with Jonny Lee Miller (as Mr. Knightley) who was in Mansfield Park (as Edmund Bertram) with Frances O'Connor who was in The Importance of Being Earnest (as Gwendolen Fairfax*) with Judi Dench (as Lady Augusta Bracknell*) who was in Pride and Prejudice (as Lady Catherine de Bourgh) with Matthew MacFadyen (as Mr. Darcy) who was in Little Dorrit (as Arthur Clennam) with Claire Foy (as Amy Dorrit)!
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I figured out everything on my own except for the things with an asterisk. I did, however, figure out all the movie connections on my own. =) How fun! Thank you Miss Laurie!
The way I did that will probably make it very hard for you to calculate my score....
I noticed everybody connected was married or the romantic interest with each other as it went along...except Judi Dench. Was there someone else in Earnest and P&P who I didn't get?
Payton,
ReplyDeleteGood work! Your score is 110 points!
The only ones you missed were naming the characters from Upstairs, Downstairs and The Importance of Being Earnest. I wasn't counting Michael Gambon but you're right he was in Emma (2009) and Amazing Grace as well! Thanks for playing! :)
Miss Dashwood,
ReplyDeleteGood work on the actor's names! Your score is 35 points. If you can name the characters the actors play you get extra points (and I know you must know at least half of them). ;)
beastsbelle,
ReplyDeleteGood job on your guesses without looking! Your score for that is 80 points! After looking online you add 25 points to your score for a total of 105 points.
The problem is that you were looking at the wrong Mansfield Park adaptation so the actor is wrong. It's the 1999 Mansfield Park version that is the connection. Thanks for playing!
Melody,
ReplyDeleteThat's funny that you were just talking about Degrees of Separation with Mouse! ;) It is really a lot of fun!
Your score by yourself is 90 points but with the ones you looked up 25 points are added for a total of 115 points!
There were three character names you forgot and they were the gal's character name in Great Expectations, the guy's character name in Amazing Grace, and the gal's character name in Mansfield Park. Otherwise your answers were perfectly right and you're right about that "lead" connection. :)
Thanks for playing!
Oh, oops! It gets so tricky! ;-) (Plus I was trying to hurry. Not the best idea.)
ReplyDeleteOkay, so the the "gal" in Great Expectations was Estella Havisham (I thought I had put that one, but maybe I was editing it and backspaced it accidentally), in Amazing Grace it's William Wilberforce, and in Mansfield Park it's Fanny Price.
Thanks again!
Melody,
ReplyDeleteOoops! Yes, you did mention the "gal" in Great Expectations but forgot to mention her character in Wives & Daughters (my fault). The other two character names you mentioned were correct. Glad you enjoyed this! :)
Oh! hehe! That would be Molly Gibson. ;-) I had copied my answer, but then I didn't paste it before I accidentally copied something else... silly me... so I couldn't check back.
ReplyDeleteClaire Foy as Lady Persie Towyn (Upstairs,Downstairs)
ReplyDeleteKeeley Hawes as Cynthia Kirkpatrick (Wives & Daughters)
Justine Waddel as Estella Havisham (Great Expectations)
Ioan Gruffund as Pip (Amazing Grace)
Jonny Lee Miller as Edmund Bertram (Mansfield Park)
Judi Dench as Lady Augusta Bracknell (The Importance of Being Earnest)
Kiera Knightley as Lizzie Bennet (Pride & Prejudice)
Matthew Macfadyen as Arthur Clennam(Little Dorrit)
The only one I wasn't really sure of was Judi Dench's character. I have only seen The Importance of Being Earnest once. It was a fun quiz.
God bless,
Sarah Grace

Whew!
Oh, and I always refer to Great Expectations (1999) as "the Great Expectations with Molly Gibson and William Wilberforce." :P

I did look up on IMDb for some of these, since I've hardly ever heard of Upstairs, Downstairs or The Importance of Being Earnest. Lots of fun!
Frances O'CONNOR!!!! That's it!
ReplyDeleteAll right, I'm now going to IMDB to try and figure out the Upstairs Downstairs character...
Oh! It must be Keeley Hawes as Lady Agnes Holland, who then played Cynthia Kirkpatrick on Wives and Daughters.
birdinel,
ReplyDeleteAll of your guesses were correct! Your score is 65 points. Good job!
Maria Elisabeth,
Good job on all of your guesses. Your score is 95 points! Well done! :)

I've never done one of these before, and am a wee bit confused, but I think I've got the gist of it.:)
