If you watch BBC period dramas long enough you'll notice that they sometime reuse costumes.
In this quiz there are two dresses that have been used in adaptations of Charles Dickens and Elizabeth Gaskells works. I've collected photos of each wearing and your job is to guess which films they were worn in and who was wearing them!
To Play: Take a look at the photos below and leave a comment telling me which Gaskell and Dickens adaptation the two dresses were worn in. Extra points for naming the characters and actresses who wore them.
Scoring: 5 points for each correctly guessed film, character and actress. Maximum score is 75 points.

This shouldn't be too tricky because they seemed to be fairly well known dresses in the costume fan sphere. It was great fun collecting the photos though.

Ooh what fun! Well, the first dress is worn by Molly Gibson (Justine Waddell) in Wives and Daughters... I never even noticed this was the same dress, it looks different without the collar--but I think the second is Fanny Dorrit in Little Dorrit. (Is the actress Emma Peirson? For some reason that's the name that popt into my head...)
ReplyDeleteAnd for the Black Striped, I never noticed this one being the same, either? Well, #1 is Margaret Hale (Daniela Denby-Ashe) in North and South. Not sure about the second one-- is it Cranford? And the third one is, I think, Lady Dedlock (Gillian Anderson) in Bleak House.
=) Doubles are always fun! Costumes can look so different just with little touches like a different shirt underneath & collars!
I haven't seen many Dickens films (except Little Dorrit) so I'm not entering the contest unless you decide my answers work after all. :)

Dickens) I don't think BBC has done Oliver Twist, I've only seen the Muppets or animated Christmas Carols. I would have recognized it in Little Dorrit (Have I mentioned I love this dress?) Sleepy Hollow is NOT a Dixkens film, and I've not seen it so why is it popping up in my mind? Maybe, Bleak House? (I almost watched thia once. Now I wish I had so I'd know instead of guessing!)

BBC has made multiple versions of Oliver Twist but neither of the dresses come from one of them.
