This week I'm trying a new game called a Throwdown. A Throwdown is a little competition to determine which is best.
The subject of this week's Throwdown was prompted by a question Miss Dashwood posed for the recent tag of elevens. She asked "If you could wear any outfit from a movie for a day, what would you choose?" and my first choice was one of Emma Woodhouse's dresses from Emma (2009).
To Play: Take a look at Emma Woodhouse's wardrobe and vote for your favorites in the poll below. I'll post the results of the poll next week.
Emma's Wardrobe:
1. Orange Floral Dress
Worn at the Mr. & Mrs.Weston's wedding and again when Harriet first dines at Hartfield.
2. Long Sleeve Coral Dress
Working during scene where Emma argues with Mr. Knightley about Harriet Smith. It was later worn at dinner durring John & Isabella's Christmas visit the same time when Emma and Mr. Knightley make up. Also worn as a day dress when Emma discovers Mr. Elton is to marry.
3. Christmas Party Dress
Worn at the Westons' Christmas party with red flowers in her hair.
4. Pink Long Sleeve Dress
Worn when Emma meets Frank Churchill and again when she meets Mrs. Elton and shows her around Hartfield.
5. Turquoise Day Dress
Worn a few times during morning and afternoon scenes such as reading with Harriet, waiting for the Cole's invitation and visiting Harriet when she's sick.
6. Coral Evening Dress
Worn at the Cole's evening party and again when Emma holds a dinner party for Mrs. Elton.
7. Green Day Dress
Worn during a few morning visits to Randalls, when Harriet gets attacked by gypsies and on a trip to Donwell Abbey on a certain "telling papa" day. Worn with or without the long sleeve under shirt and also occasionally worn under a long-sleeved spencer.
8. Ball Gown
Worn during the ball in Highbury, the dress appears only in that scene but what an amazing piece it is!
9. Gray Morning Dress
Worn during several morning scenes such as when Emma advises Harriet on Robert Martin's proposal, when Frank Churchill says good-bye and when Emma considers reupholstering Mr. Knightley's chair.
10. Gray Morning Dress - Summer Spencer
This seems to be the same dress as the one above but it's worn during a summer scene with a short-sleeve spencer over it. The scenes in question are at the end of episode three and encompasses a walk around Hartfield, a game of alphabets with a Mr. Dixon joke and a discussion with Mr. Knightley about "secret looks".
11. Brown Floral Dress
Most notably worn during the strawberry picking scenes at Donwell Abbey. Also worn with a long-sleeve undershirt during an outdoor chat at Randalls and when Mr. Knightley tells Emma about Harriet's secret.
12. Picnic Dress & Spencer
Worn during the picnic at Box Hill with a three-quarters-length sleeve striped spencer and a bonnet.
13. Yellow Morning Dress
Worn during a few conversations with Harriet and at the beginning of Episode One with a purple-ish sash.
14. Yellow Sprigged Dress
Worn during several scenes at Randalls and Hartfield (most notably the proposal scene!). Also worn on occasion with a yellow long-sleeve spencer.
15. Wedding Gown
A special dress for a special day, worn with a long-sleeve cream spencer when Emma leaves on her honeymoon.
Now it's your turn to vote for your favorite dresses! When voting choose the dresses you think are the prettiest and you might want to wear yourself.
Which of Emma's dresses did you vote for and why?
Are there any of Emma's outfits that you dislike on her?
If you could choose one of these dresses to wear for a day which would it be?
I picked #14, I believe it was... the yellow one with blue flowers... because I am going to have one almost identical to it!!
ReplyDeleteMy material is also yellow with blue flowers and the dress style is quite similar... :D
Oh, GOOD! I was afraid I was going to have to pick one. And I could never do that. Because I loooooove the dresses in this movie. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to go with 1, 7, 8, 11, and 12. But are there any of them I dislike? I don't think so... =)
The long sleeve coral dress with the green sash is my favorite, and the pink picnic dress with that adorable spencer comes in close second! Those are two that I would love to wear. I really like her ball gown, too, but I don't know if I would want to wear it. The only one of Emma's dresses that I don't particularly care for is the gray morning dress, but I don't heartily dislike it---it's just not one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I love Emma's wardrobe and all her clothes and costumes! She had some of the best dresses in period drama history.
ReplyDeleteMy top three favorites are the long sleeve coral dress, the Christmas party dress, and the turquoise day dress. It's interesting to note that in the film Emma repeatedly wore the same dresses with either something on top or under.
