Screencaps Game: Have You Seen This? {Edition One}

For the game this week I'm trying a twist on everyone's favorite Screencaps Game. The screencaps this time come from period set films that aren't often talked about as much as some of our favorites, but these films are no less delightful! For another twist this week answer the question Have You Seen These? - I really want to hear which of these films you have seen and whether you enjoyed them as much as I do!

To Play: Look at the 15 screencaps below and try to identify which period films they come from. Leave a comment with your answers and for added fun let me know which of these period films you've seen! I'll respond with your scores. Guess as many times as you wish. Answers will be posted next Saturday.

Helpful Hints: Each of these period film titles can be found on my Period Films page. Also, if you aren't sure about a period film but recognize an actor in the screencap feel free to search for possible answers on IMDb.com!

Scoring: 10 points for each correctly guessed period film. Highest possible score is 150 points.

    12. Road To Avonlea- season 1- Proof of the Pudding. One of my all-time favorite episodes. I own every season and the Christmas movie, of course. ;-)
    13. Old (70's I think) BBC Persuasion- seen and recent aquirement.
    14. The Inheritance- seen and own.
    15. Fiddler on The Roof- specifically, finishing Matchmaker- of course I've seen it, but my parents own it, this time, not me.....and my sister is currently borrowing it. :-p

    1- Haven't seen this, but I'm going to guess Lost in Austen? Hmmm....
    2- David Copperfield with the ONE AND ONLY ANTHONY ANDREWS. I.e., the 2000 version. Haven't seen this either. SNIFFLE.

    4- Heidi (maybe the Jason Robards/Jane Seymour version?) I definitely have seen that, but it's been a while. Like, eight or nine years. :P
    5- Ivanhoe!!!! This time next week I will have seen it!
    6- Maybe Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet? That's definitely Helena Bonham-Carter on the left, and I know she was in that... the doublets the guys are wearing look like they could be Shakespearean.

Tobias Menzies from Persuasion? *runs to IMDb* Nope, not him... okay, IMDb says Andrew Buchan played St. John Rivers... who on earth is that... WHAT THE GASKELL. IT'S JEM HEARN FROM CRANFORD. Hahahahahahahahaha! WOW. :P

    12- FINALLY A MOVIE I'VE SEEN! This is Road to Avonlea, and I can even identify the episode (Proof of the Pudding). LOVE that show. And I will bet all my buttons that our Nonsensical Girl will get this one right. :D
    13- Ooooh, it looks like Persuasion... *checks IMDb* Maybe the 1971 version? Have you seen that? Is it good?

  12. 1. I haven't seen this, but is this the homeschool group "First Impressions" movie that blends old and modern Pride and Prejudice?
    2. Haven't seen it, don't know it, but that is Anthony Andrews on the left.
    3. No idea, but that is Ciarian Hinds on the right. I used to be sooo in love with him. He was kinda of my earlier Richard Armitage-same type of characters and acting.
    4. This is the Heidi I grew up watching with Jane Seymour as Fraulein R---whatever her name-the cranky lady.
    5. Ivanhoe. I think I actually did start watching part of it; I had forgotten that I started it, but I think it became due before I finished. I need to finish it. Everything should be on Netflix.
    6. I am going to go with "A Room with a Veiw" because it looks olderish and I see Helena Bonham Carter. I haven't seen it and heard from my sister that it isn't ahem, recommended.

    14. The inheritance. Such a sweet movie. I believe the book was Louisa Alcott's first-she wrote it when she was 17 and you can sure tell because it is really dramatic. I think it was supposed to be set in Europe in the late 18th-early 19th century-I liked the movie version better although of course I saw it first, so that messes up my perspective.
    15. Fiddler on the Roof. I have only seen it once-years ago-and was not crazy about it.

    Sorry, for the length. I love to leave commentary as I go. Also, I have a question and could not find an email to reach you. I am having a tea party in March and was wondering if I could use some of your period drama games (mostly JA, the Brontes, and Gaskell perhaps) for my guests to play?

    15 -- That girl looks like the one from Fiddler on the Roof (you know how long it took me to come up with that? ;) So I guess Fiddler on the Roof. Gotta be Rosalind Harris. Btw, I like her name (Tzeitel) so much that I want to use it for my daughter someday...different spelling though. Tseitl Grace. I just love saying it.

  17. I am afraid I only recognized one. But the one I recognized is one of my favorite shows ever! I've seen Screencap #12. It's Road to Avonlea. One of my favorite episodes, too!

    11-victoria and albert (yes! and I love it!)
    12-can't remember name but I know it's something about avonlea and the main character's name is Sara (never seen it except for youtube clips and pictures online)
    13-persuasion (yes, and I like the newer versions better but I'll watch any version of persuasion as its my favorite Austen tale.)
    14-the inheritance (yes! one of my favorite films!)

    Several of these movies I have never seen, but I recognized quite a few of the actors/actresses.

    It's surprising to me how many people haven't seen #7 and #8 but I'm glad you have! I wasn't sure if you'd ever attempted #13, it is a bit boring at times. Now I'm wondering if you mentioned watching #4 and that's why I subconsciously chose that one. Hmm... ;)

    Your guesses on screencaps 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 were correct. Your guess on #6 was incorrect but in the right vein (and she did play O. but in a different version than the K.B. version). Your score is 130 points!
    #2 was on YouTube, that's where I watched it so I'll go see if I can find it for you, I liked it better than the 1999 in some ways. #4 has always been a favorite of my sister's, it's classic! Funny that I'd decided to use a photo from #5 and then you were talking about it, haha! You haven't seen #7!?!?! You simply MUST see it! Haven't you read the book? #8 is a must see too, there are some really sweet stories in it. Loved you comment on trying to figure out the actor in #10, he's the best thing about that film IMHO.
    Oh yes, Marianne did get #12 correct but she didn't mention the exact episode like you did - perhaps she's not that big of a fan after all! Oh dear, she's glaring at me now! Was it something I said? ;)
    #13 is good, very close to the book, but older and a bit boring at times. #13 is really good, your sisters would enjoy it I think! Oh I knew you'd know #15, you can probably even identify which song they're singing! :) Loved reading your comment! When I post the answers I'll be mentioning some of my likes and dislikes about each film (mini reviews I guess) so stay tuned!

Your guess on #6 was incorrect (I don't recommend that film either but haven't seen it all the way through, the 2007 Room With A View is quite good though). Your score is 50 points.
    No need to apologize for lengthy comments here, I love them! :) I was a huge Ciaran Hinds fangirl too for a long time because of Persuasion 1995, now of course he's older but I still enjoy most of his roles.

    Now, as to #6; as you said we could consult IMDb if we recognized actors, I have done so and now guess that this is Twelfth Night. Which I obviously haven't seen, since I didn't recognize it. ;)

    And I did watch all of the old Persuasion... zzzzzzzz. *cough* Haha, I watched all the older JA versions (except NA) for the series I did on my blog. I probably wouldn't watch it again.

    2. David Copperfield (2000) --> seen and enjoyed very much. The book is my favourite Dickens of what I read so far (6 books)

    #13: 1972 Emma - I have seen this version and although it is more accurate to the book it did drag on so.
    #14: The Inheritance - Seen it and loved it! I thought I recognized the actors when I first took a look, but I couldn't place them :)

    #3 is from The Mayor of Casterbridge.
    #4 is from Heidi, 1993! We bought that version at a Garage Sale!
    #5 Ivanhoe! 1982, T.V. movie.
    #8 I believe is He Knew He Was Right. Haven't seen it, but have heard a lot about it. Almost want to watch it just because David Tennant is in there!
    #9 The Importance of Being Earnest. 2002.
    #10 Jane Eyre.
    #12 Road to Avonlea.
    #13 is Pursuasion, I'm not sure which year.
    #14 is The Inheritance!(a favorite!)
