Gentlemen Of Period Dramas Eyes Quiz!

Quite a while ago I posted a Ladies Of Period Dramas Eyes Quiz that was well received. I've been working on another video quiz featuring the gentlemen of period dramas.

To Play: Look at the 75 photos of eyes of gentlemen from period dramas in the video below. Leave a comment guessing which Character, Actor and Period Drama each pair of eyes comes from. I'll respond with your score. Guess as many times as you wish. An answers video will be posted next week.

Scoring: 1 point for each correctly guessed Character, Actor and Period Drama. A high score of 225 points can be earned.

Note: If your comment is long, you may want to split up your answers in two comments so that it won't be cut off.

Enjoy!

  8. Sorry if seven parts was too much! But I know how annoying it is when you can see half of the comment, with games! Do tell me which ones you couldn't see, and I'll reanswer them.
Thanks so much for the game and all the hard work you put in it! I always enjoy your games so much!

  23. I might be too late to add one but I just realized number #41 is Richard Farnsworth who plays Matthew Cuthbert in Anne of Green Gables.

  24. Well, the guesses are not as thorough as I would like, but here they are. :)
    First half--
    1. Roger Hamley, Wives & Daughters
    2. Arthur Clennam, Little Dorrit (Matthew MacFadyen)
    3. Col. Brandon, S&S (Alan Rickman)

    5. I thiiink this might be Pip from Great Expectations?
    6. John Chivery, Little Dorrit
    7. Daniel Deronda, same title (Hugh Dancy) (At least I think it's not David Copperfield, because his hair was longer on that. Haha.)
    8. John Thornton, North & South (Richard Armitage)
    9. Col. Fitzwilliam, P&P95

    11. Edmund Bertram, Mansfield Park 2007 (Blake Ritson)
    12. Heehee. :D Edward Ferrars, S&S08 (Dan Stevens). His eyes please me. :P
    13. Frank Churchill, Emma (There was a time I could reel off nearly all the actors in this, but now I can't remember his...)
    14. Mr. Bennet, P&P (Benjamin Whitrow)
    15. Eugene Can'trememberhislastname, Our Mutual Friend
    16. Ummm is this Laurie from Little Women? (Christian Bale)
    17. Probably Captain Wentworth, Persuasion (Ciaran Hinds)
    18. Poooossibly the younger fellow on Cranford whose name I cannot remember at the moment...
    19. Prince Albert, The Young Victoria
    20. Robert Timmins, LRTC? Brendan Coyle
    21. Bertie Wooster, Jeeves and Wooster, Hugh Laurie
    22. Dr. Harrison, Cranford. Simon Woods
    23. Robert Martin, Emma

    25. Mr. Rochester, Jane Eyre, Toby Stephens
    26. William Pitt, Amazing Grace, Benedict Cumberbatch
    27. Osborne Hamley, Wives & Daughters
    28. Jeeves, Jeeves & Wooster, And I wish I could remember his name.
    29. Enjolras, Les Miserables, Aaron Tveit ;)
    30. Col. Brandon, S&S08, David Morrissey
    31. Alf Arless, LRTC
    32. The NOT-fine eyes of Willoughby, S&S08, Dominic Cooper
    33. Mr. Bingley, P&P, Crispin Bonham-Cater
    34. Mr Elliot, Persuasion (? could be a different character),
    35. This is a little blurry, but I think it's Mr Guppy from Bleak House

    37. Willoughby, S&S95, Greg Wise. His eyes are finer. :P
    38. Edmund Bertram, Mansfield Park (I think), Nicholas Farrell
    39. Marius Pontmercy, Les Mis, Eddie Redmayne, unless it's him in something else, haha
    40. Tom Lefroy, Becoming Jane, James McAvoy

    ReplyDelete
  25. Second half--
    41. Matthew Cuthbert, Anne of Green Gables
    42. Capt Wentworth, Persuasion, Rupert Penry-Jones
    43. Wickham, P&P95. Adrian... aghh, memory. Why do you fail me. Ah, Lukis. (Ha, I googled Adrian Lu-- hoping it would come up because I felt like it was something that sounded like Lucas. Hopefully that wasn't cheating.)
    44. Ooh, I haven't got the top of the hair to judge the movie by... but from the length on the sides I'll go with Mr. Plumptre, Miss Austen Regrets (my other guess would be the one in Cranford), and it's definitely Tom Hiddleston.
    45. YAAAAAAAAYYYY finally my favorite. :D (As far as eyes goes, y'know. Although he fits into top favorites for a lot of things. :P) Daniel Parish, LRTC, Ben Aldridge
    46. Oooh, hard. I want to go with Cranford but it could be Emma. But from the hair I'll go with Cranford. Michael Gambon, Mr. Holbrook. :)
    47. I know the actor but I can't remember his name and he's been in too many period dramas! :P I'll go with Wives and Daughters (Mr. Gibson) just in case that's it.
    48. Edward Ferrars, S&S, Hugh Grant
    49. JJ Feild... Mr. Tilney, NA is more popular so I'll go with that. (But it might be Nicholas Nickleby. Haha.)
    50. John Harmon, Our Mutual Friend. Something with Steven in the name? Oh yeah, Steven Mackintosh. Or however it's spelled. :P
    51. Sir Percy, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Anthony Andrews.
    52. Hiiiii Mr. Knightley. :) Jonny Lee Miller. Oh, Emma. haha. Sorry, I'm getting all out of order.
    53. It appears to be Jean Valjean, Les Miserables, Hugh Jackman
    54. Mr. Darcy, P&P, Colin Firth
    55. He Knew He Was Right, David Tennant
    56. Thomas Brown, Lark Rise to Candleford
    57. Fake Mr. Bingley, P&P05, Simon Woods
    58. Mr Darcy, Death Comes to Pemberley, Matthew Rhys... unless it's Edwin Drood but I don't think so. They coloring looks like DCTP.

    60. David Copperfield, title of the same
    61. Herbert Pocket, Great Expectations, Harry Lloyd
    62. The Mystery of Edwin Drood... was that actually the character's name? I don't remember. But I think she called him Eddie so I'll just guess Edwin Drood anyways. haha.
    63. At first glance this struck me as Gilbert Blythe (Jonathan Crombie) from Anne but the more I look at it the more I doubt...

68 The Way We Live Now?
    69. So familiar, but...

    71. Mr. Knightley, 1996 Emma, Jeremy Northam
    72. Mr. Knightley, other 1996 Emma, Mark Strong
    73. Captain Brown, Cranford?
    74. Downton Abbey?
    75. William Wilberforce, Amazing Grace?

  26. Laurie,

What an amazing and entertaining work you have created with this site. I am a subscriber to Vic's Jane Austen World and was looking up something on Amanda Root (also one of my favorite actresses and that 1995 movie version of Persuasion, one of my favorites as well) and my search engine brought me to your article about her.

I've been a faithful fan of ALL THINGS Jane Austen since my early 20s (and an avid reader from the time I was about 6 years old thanks to the patience of my Dad who passed a year and a half ago.)

I also love period pieces of all kinds. I too am a writer. I began writing for a national Christian Youth magazine in my early teens and to my amazement was paid very well for short stories and illustrations. That was many years ago. In my career as a Fitness and Wellness consultant, trainer, Facility owner/director and wellness presenter, I also have written articles, columns, etc., on wellness and women's issues over the years.

About 12+ years ago, I contracted a form of Lyme Disease and was placed on a medication that caused a lot of damage as I suffered from all side effects possible. [You can see a short video of what I and my family went through at our web page for our book, "A Husband, A Wife, & An Illness," at www.couplesfacingillness.com ]

Anyway, as my health worsened I left my business and began writing and presenting on a part time (as my body could) basis.

I am currently writing a 2nd book - fiction again this time, about a woman most fascinating subject and his influence in the world we live in. That's all I can say for now!

As a fan of period pieces, Jane Austen, and a writer, I congratulate you on the many wonderful postings you have on your site (and encourage you to consider possibly putting some of them together to make a book - you have so much material that all you would need at this point is making decisions and editing)!

I'd love to play the Gentleman of Period Eyes game but I'm a little confused about where one posts their answers...? If you could let me know I'd like to participate (how smart of you to come up with such a fun idea).

Also, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as you care for your great grandmother. If you let me know, I will send you a pdf copy of our book as it has some great tips in it for "caregivers."

    Blessings,
    JLJ

    1. JLJ,
Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging comment! It is wonderful to have a "kindred spirit" visit my blog. I hope you come back often! No, I have not considered putting my blog writings into a book, there is a lot here though and I'll definitely have to think about that.
As to the game, just leave your guesses in a comment on this post! :)
