So, The Woman in White--is that story any good? And are there any good movies of it?
Oh, I am quite surprised to see I recieved the highest score! Surprised but pleased. :)I quite enjoy your period drama actors games, Miss Laurie! I love it when I'm watching something new and a familiar face shows up- that's pretty much the story of Downton Abbey. My family is halfway through the second season, and so far there have been about four or five Hornblower characters! My sister and I went quite wild when dear Mr. Bracegirdle showed up. :)
Hm, I did think that maybe Howard's End wouldn't count.... but I went ahead and wrote it anyway. Samuel West was kind of pathetic in that movie, I must admit- such a change from Major Edrington!
Oh, I do hope your cold goes away very soon, Miss Laurie! And thank you again for the delightful game! (And sorry about the rather long comment...)
I've seen the 1997 adaptation of "The Woman in White" and read the novel. It may be helpful to read the novel first before you see the adaptation since material is left out or altered. When the story was originally serialized, it was a popular read in the UK at the time and Collins gained wide attention from it.
Carey Mulligan starred opposite Daniel Radcliffe in a 2010 drama "My Boy Jack" (shown on PBS) about novelist Rudyard Kiplinger's only son who was killed in action during WWI.
Melody,
The Woman In White (1997) stars Justine Waddell and Tara Fitzgerald. It's pretty good but not sure you'd like the story very much. You can read my review here: http://old-fashionedcharm.blogspot.com/2010/11/woman-in-white-1997.html
Writer Wilkie Collins was a friend of Charles Dickens and they wrote some plays together. The Woman In White is a mystery but it deals with abuse. I prefer The Moonstone which is truly a robbery mystery. Have you seen it? You'd quite like the version with Keeley Hawes and Greg Wise! :)
Oh yes, I have seen The Moonstone! :) Several times, and I was thinking about watching it again as I haven't seen it for a while. Thanks for linking to that review... I'm always on the lookout for period dramas I've never seen (if you have an suggestions fell free to email me about them, heehee).
