Beautiful Blogger Award & Questions

I don't often repost the rewards I recieve but this one had some fun questions. The Sunflower Blogger Award The Beautiful Blogger Award was given to me this time by Naomi who has a fairly new blog called Wonderland Creek that you should all check out! There's been a few new period drama blogs popping up recently and it's wonderful, especially as I get older, that younger bloggers are continuing the period drama love!

Naomi's Questions:

-What do you think of Pride and Prejudice 1995? I want your honest opinion!
I do really really love P&P95 as it is definitely the best ever P&P adaptation and am a proud member of the P&P95Forever Club! That being said I do sometimes privately lament that everyone now seems to think "Colin Firth" whenever they think of "Mr. Darcy". I think that Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle were very well cast at the time but no matter how good the actors are nothing can really compare to the book and what Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet look like in our own minds when reading it.

-What are you now reading?
The Rescue by Lori Wick, second book in The English Garden series. I'm finding it a bit less interesting and more historically flawed than the first book but still enjoyable.

-What is your least favourite costume from your favourite movie?
Well my favorite period drama would have to be Persuasion (1995) and as much as I like the costumes in that I'd have to say that Anne's dress she wears to the card party toward the end of the film is my least favorite. The dress itself is kind if a pretty style but the gloves and other accesories she wears just make her look like an old lady and it's not my favorite.

-What is your favourite Period Drama hat?
I love Marianne's staw bonnet from Sense & Sensibility 1995 from the scene where Colonel Brandon is reading her poetry. I also love Lizzy Bennet's hat from P&P 1995 and the scene where she's walking with Colonel Fitzwilliam at Rosings.

-Who is the last man (from a Period Drama) in the world who you could ever marry?
Well, I would never marry a scoundrel, but one hero that I could never marry would be Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre. Yes, I do see his merrits but on the other hand he majorly lied to Jane and probably would have gone through with marrying her had not someone stopped him! I can excuse some things but it is hard to trust him or name him a true gentleman when compared to Mr. Knightley, Captain Wentworth and Mr. Thornton.

-Which period drama lady would most like to have as your teacher?
Miss Taylor from Emma? Oh no, I have a better one, Anne Shirley from Anne of Avonlea!

-What is the next thing that you are going to watch? (Or what do you think?)
The Book Theif (2013), but after my weekend off I find that it is still unopened and waiting to be watched. :(
I've also been watching the 1980's Bleak House on Netflix. Only four more episodes to go! It's good by not as enjoyable at the 2005 version.

-What's the colour of your bedroom?
Well, I actually have three bedrooms in various houses at this present moment.
My room at my parent's house has cream walls and I have a lot of burgandy and cream accents. My room at my great-grandmother's house has pale pink walls and is very bright and sunny. My room for the weekends at my aunt's house are black and red, I have a floral comforter that matches perfectly and I have two Doctor Who posters up on my walls. :)

-What do you feel like eating now?
An ice cream sundae with hot fudge, nuts, caramel and whipped cream! I'm so bad.
I've actually got to make dinner soon: sweet & sour meatballs and veggies over rice. Yum!

Rules:

Nominate as many people as you wish

...and that's it!

Artsy Award

Stephanie of Hopeful Homemaker very sweetly gave me the Artsy Award and the tag questions looked like fun so here I am re-posting it. Thanks Stephanie!

1) Skirts or Jeans?
Probably jeans, I love them in autumn when the air starts to get crisp. I like skirts too but don't own many so I save them for church or special occasions. Modest comfortable fitting jeans are easier for me to find than skirts for some reason.

2) Cats or Dogs?
CATS! I don't hate dogs but I'm not a huge fan of the stench, drool and needing to walk them (I've been a doggy-sitter before). My family and I have three cats now and have owned cats for all my growing up years. I like cats because they do like attention but can also take care of themselves and we always train our cats to behave (no begging, getting on counter tops, clawing furniture or eating houseplants). To me there's something so comforting about hugging a purring kitty or a sleeping kitty at the bottom of your bed to warm your feet. :)

3) Cows or Horses?
This is a little bit odd question. I like both but for different reasons. Horses are quite noble and beautiful in a way that cows just aren't and they are useful for transportation (James my chaise and four!). Cows are quite smelly but they are useful for milk and beef. Maybe horses would be my choice but I've never ridden one except at a fair once.

4) Wood floors or Carpet?
Wood floors. Hardwood floors. I love wood floors, so much easier to keep clean than carpet and you still have to option of using a rug if you want to.

5) Rain or Sun?
Definitely rain. Although I do love sunny days I prefer the quiet rainy days when I can curl up with a good book or a favorite period drama and sort of feel a bit sad but happy inside. "Sad is happy for deep people." :)

I'm awarding anyone who sees this and feels like answering the tag questions. So many of you out there have worked hard making your blogs pretty so it would be hard to just tag five fellow bloggers!

The Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award

The Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award has been passed around lately and I've very kindly been awarded by Miss Dashwood, Ella, Melody and Miss Elizabeth Bennet! Thank you ladies, this is a fun award!

For this award I need to share seven random things about myself:

1. My family and I adopted two new cats last Wednesday. Shawn is black with white paws and "ascot" (or cravat!) and Gus has longer all black fur and golden eyes. They are settling in nicely although our younger cat Gunther is still a bit scared around them.
2. I'm about halfway through reading Dickens' A Tale Of Two Cities and quite enjoying it but I can't wait to start reading Great Expectations.
3. I've been eating a lot of pizza for lunch and dinner lately, like four out of the last five days! Good thing I like pizza! :)
4. My hair was in need of a trim so my mom gave me a haircut today - just a bit off the ends so it feels and looks healthy now.
5. Salt & vinegar potato chips are my one weakness! (well lately I've found them strangely addictive!)
6. I've been enjoying Season 2 of Downton Abbey on Masterpiece Theatre. My favorite characters are Matthew, Mary and I'm liking Edith a lot better this season.
7. The job I have now has been working out very well even with all the snow we've been having lately. When the school has a snow day I get a snow day too! And I love the elderly lady I'm taking care of she's quite something!

Now to award 10 more people:
1. Net Movie Blogger at It's A Wonderful Movie
3. Raquel at God's Daughter
4. Mom Walt at Mom Wald's Place
6. EvaJoy at Between The Covers
7. Elizabeth Bristol at In The Garret
8. Pallavi at Period Movie Box
9. Elizabeth at The Endless Road
10. and anyone else who would like it I award you too! :)

Stylish Blogger Award

Rachel at Hope's Treasures was so sweet in passing along the Stylish Blogger Award to me.

From what I've seen the rules for this award are:
-List 7 random facts about yourself
-Award 5 other blogger and
-Thank the blogger who awarded you and link back to them

Seven random facts about me:
  1. Lately in the evenings my sister and I have been crocheting Christmas gifts and watching Lark Rise to Candleford, so much fun!
  2. My least favorite household chore is probably folding laundry but I enjoy washing dishes. Crazy huh?
  3. One day I'd like to own a conure. They are smart birds and so much fun!
  4. I love Cranberry things at Christmas including Cranberry English muffins, cranberry ginger ale and my cranberry body splash!
  5. One of my most favorite things is a girls day out with my mom and sister shopping and eating out. It's so much fun just to take our time browsing and spoiling ourselves a bit!
  6. I prefer wearing my contacts over wearing my glasses most days.
  7. Old-Fashioned Charm is currently up to 234 followers! I'm so thankful for each one you!

I'm passing along this award to:
Maria Elisabeth at Miss Georgiana Darcy
Katie Wegner at Elegance of Drama

I've tried to award lovely bloggers who I haven't awarded recently, but if anyone else would like to do this award go right ahead! It was difficult choosing just five Stylish Bloggers. :)

Thanks again Rachel for this lovely award!

I've Been Awarded!

I'm sorry I haven't been around lately. My days lately have been filled with a lot of crocheting which I hope to tell you all more about later. Right now I would like to thank Charity U at Austenitis for awarding me with the Stylish Blogger Award!

With this award I'm supposed to list seven random things about myself. So lets see:
  1. My favorite flowers are lilacs - I love their sweet smell and pretty clusters in various colors.
  2. I collect quotes and recently started my fifth book of quotes and poetry.
  3. I enjoy re-watching old British TV comedies with my family, such as Keeping Up Appearances, To The Manor Born, As Time Goes By, Good Neighbors and One Foot In The Grave.
  4. My middle name is Brittany and, although my parents think Laurie Brittany sounds pretty, I don't really like the name because it's so trendy!
  5. I love to see people with red hair, especially people with red curly hair!
  6. I love the smell and taste of fresh fruit, especially citrus fruits, pineapples and raspberries.
  7. When I was a little girl I used to hate chocolate and strawberries. Now my mouth can't help but just water when I see a chocolate covered strawberry! Yum!
Okay, now I get to award 15 other people! I've never passed on one of these awards so let's see...here's what you should do if I mention your name below:
  • Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award.
  • Share 7 things about yourself.
  • Award fifteen recently discovered great bloggers.
  • Contact the named bloggers and tell them they're awarded!

Here you go, thank you all for having such lovely stylish blogs! I'm awarding:
