Jane Austen Would You Rather

A while back Cordy from Write On, Cordy! tagged me in a Jane Austen Would You Rather tag. There's some really fun questions here! Sorry Cordy for taking so long to repost this. I hope y'all enjoy these questions and take some time to answer them yourself.

Who would you rather have act as your matchmaker, Lady Russell (from Persuasion) or Mrs. Jennings?  Mrs. Jennings. I actually have quite an appreciation for her motherly kindness even though she is a bit embarrassing at times. She made very good matched for her two daughters and Marianne Dashwood that combined personality matching (and kind regard, if not love) with being comfortably well settled in their married life. Even her matching Elinor up with Colonel Brandon (towards the end of the book) was not a bad match at all had their hearts not already been tied to others. Lady Russell means well I'm sure but she worries too much about rank and wealth.

Who would you like as a pen pal from Jane Austen's works? Probably Fanny Price. She was a faithful correspondent to her brother William and she keeps her letters newsy. I'd love to have her a a pen pal!

Who would you rather go on a walk with, Colonel Fitzwilliam or Captain Benwick? That's a tricky one because they both sound delightful! But while a country walk around Rosings with the good humored Colonel Fitzwilliam sounds lovely, I think I'd rather have a brisk seaside jaunt with the poetry spouting Captain Benwick!

Who would you rather have to befriend, Mrs. Elton or Lucy Steele? Mrs. Elton. I am very like Jane Fairfax so I think I could befriend Mrs. Elton fairly well, at least she speaks her mind most of the time. Lucy Steele is much more of a double crossing type person who says one thing to your face and does another behind your back, I couldn't handle that type of person.

Who would you rather have as a sibling, John Knightley or Mary [Musgrove] (from Persuasion, not Mary Bennet)? John Knightley. He's kind and has a great snarky sense of humor (reminds me of my dad actually). Mary Musgrove is just plain annoying!

Who would you rather dance with? (Very open book!) Hard one! Probably Henry Tilney but perhaps Mr. Knightley - both elegant dancers and gentlemanly partners.

Who would you rather refuse, Mr. Collins or Mr. Elton? Mr. Elton. At least he would get the point right off and not persist on ignoring my refusal.

Who would you rather match-make for, Miss Bates or Mary Bennet? Mary Bennet. I think a studious young minister should be easy enough to find as she could help him to write his sermons, or what about a foreign missionary!

Who would you rather have as a best friend? Eleanor Tilney, always and forever. She's one of my favorite characters in Northanger Abbey and I just love her practical good sense, sweetness and good humor.

Who would you rather argue with? (Mrs. Bennet, Lady Catherine, Emma Woodhouse, Mr. Woodhouse, Mr. Palmer, Mrs. Jennings, Fanny Dashwood, Captain Wentworth, Mr. Darcy, ect.)
From the list I think that Captain Wentworth would be the most interesting person to argue with, challenging because he always makes sense, fun because his sense of humor always comes through.

Would you rather wander the grounds of Pemberley and risk being 'discovered' or wander over the downs surrounding Barton Cottage in the rain and twist an ankle? Usually I'd choose physical pain over emotional strain but Pemberley would be awesome to explore and meeting Mr. Darcy wouldn't be horrible. He can keep his wet shirts through!

Where would you live in Austen's works? That's hard to decide! There's a lot of interesting places to visit such as Bath, Lyme Regis or Pemberley but I feel like a small village such as Highbury in Emma would be more my speed. So I think I might like to live at Donwell Abbey (Mr. Knightley's residence in Emma). But I also like the idea of a country parsonage so maybe Mr. Tilney's smaller house at Woodston from Northanger Abbey.

Now It's Your Turn To Answer:
Who would you rather have act as your matchmaker, Lady Russell (from Persuasion) or Mrs. Jennings?
Who would you like as a pen pal from Jane Austen's works?
Who would you rather go on a walk with, Colonel Fitzwilliam or Captain Benwick?
Who would you rather have to befriend, Mrs. Elton or Lucy Steele?
Who would you rather have as a sibling, John Knightley or Mary (from Persuasion, not Mary Bennet)?
Who would you rather dance with? (Very open book!)
Who would you rather refuse, Mr. Collins or Mr. Elton?
Who would you rather match-make for, Miss Bates or Mary Bennet?
Who would you rather have as a best friend?
Who would you rather argue with? (Mrs. Bennet, Lady Catherine, Emma Woodhouse, Mr. Woodhouse, Mr. Palmer, Mrs. Jennings, Fanny Dashwood, Captain Wentworth, Mr. Darcy, ect.)
Would you rather wander the grounds of Pemberley and risk being 'discovered' or wander over the downs surrounding Barton Cottage in the rain and twist an ankle?
Where would you live in Austen's works?

I've seen The Happy Tag on a few different blogs including Wonderland Creek, Hamlette's Soliloquy and Times And Seasons Of A Beautiful Life. The idea alone made me happy so I had to give it a try. For my answers I'm focusing more on things that I've enjoyed and have made me happy recently.

The rules are simple, list things under the categories of Books, Words, Movies & TV, Fictional Characters, Scents, Songs and Miscellaneous that make you happy. You can tag other people specifically but most people just tag anyone who wants to have some fun posting it.

Question For My Readers

What period dramas are you looking forward to watching?
Upcoming films? Films that haven't come to DVD yet? Period dramas that you just haven't seen?

I was just thinking about this subject and figured I'd throw the question out there and then mention a few period dramas that I'm looking forward to.

Period Dramas I'm Looking Forward To:

A cinema near me is playing this and I really want to go see it! The story is interesting, if sometimes gritty, but that's Thomas Hardy for you. I'm excited to see Carey Mulligan as strong heroine Bathsheba Everdeen, it is rated PG-13 though.

So I've watched some of the older series and wasn't a huge fan and I wasn't really interested in the remake but watching a few clips, my interest is piqued. Again, this period drama is on the gritty side and not the usual pretty period drama that I prefer.

Another Jane Austen in the works and I'm just so excited about it!

A film about young Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret that looks super cute!

All about an aged Sherlock Holmes who seems grumpy and rather a recluse, but he comes back for one more case!

Three new Shakespeare TV films and an all-star cast! Can't wait! :)

Whoa! So I was looking at a list of upcoming period dramas and found out that the BBC has commissioned an adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's Mary Barton with screenwriter Heidi Thomas (Cranford, Upstairs Downstairs, Call The Midwife) working on the script now!

Back at Christmas time I gave my dad in KY the last season of Poirot, but didn't have time to watch the five episodes before going back to NY.

I've seen this but not in quite a long time and since listening to the audiobook I've really been wanting to watch this, but alas my DVD is in another state. Soon I shall be home for the summer and my family will have to put up with watching it with me. :)

What period dramas are you looking forward to watching?

Beautiful Blogger Award & Questions

I don't often repost the rewards I recieve but this one had some fun questions. The Sunflower Blogger Award The Beautiful Blogger Award was given to me this time by Naomi who has a fairly new blog called Wonderland Creek that you should all check out! There's been a few new period drama blogs popping up recently and it's wonderful, especially as I get older, that younger bloggers are continuing the period drama love!

Naomi's Questions:

-What do you think of Pride and Prejudice 1995? I want your honest opinion!
I do really really love P&P95 as it is definitely the best ever P&P adaptation and am a proud member of the P&P95Forever Club! That being said I do sometimes privately lament that everyone now seems to think "Colin Firth" whenever they think of "Mr. Darcy". I think that Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle were very well cast at the time but no matter how good the actors are nothing can really compare to the book and what Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet look like in our own minds when reading it.

-What are you now reading?
The Rescue by Lori Wick, second book in The English Garden series. I'm finding it a bit less interesting and more historically flawed than the first book but still enjoyable.

-What is your least favourite costume from your favourite movie?
Well my favorite period drama would have to be Persuasion (1995) and as much as I like the costumes in that I'd have to say that Anne's dress she wears to the card party toward the end of the film is my least favorite. The dress itself is kind if a pretty style but the gloves and other accesories she wears just make her look like an old lady and it's not my favorite.

-What is your favourite Period Drama hat?
I love Marianne's staw bonnet from Sense & Sensibility 1995 from the scene where Colonel Brandon is reading her poetry. I also love Lizzy Bennet's hat from P&P 1995 and the scene where she's walking with Colonel Fitzwilliam at Rosings.

-Who is the last man (from a Period Drama) in the world who you could ever marry?
Well, I would never marry a scoundrel, but one hero that I could never marry would be Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre. Yes, I do see his merrits but on the other hand he majorly lied to Jane and probably would have gone through with marrying her had not someone stopped him! I can excuse some things but it is hard to trust him or name him a true gentleman when compared to Mr. Knightley, Captain Wentworth and Mr. Thornton.

-Which period drama lady would most like to have as your teacher?
Miss Taylor from Emma? Oh no, I have a better one, Anne Shirley from Anne of Avonlea!

-What is the next thing that you are going to watch? (Or what do you think?)
The Book Theif (2013), but after my weekend off I find that it is still unopened and waiting to be watched. :(
I've also been watching the 1980's Bleak House on Netflix. Only four more episodes to go! It's good by not as enjoyable at the 2005 version.

-What's the colour of your bedroom?
Well, I actually have three bedrooms in various houses at this present moment.
My room at my parent's house has cream walls and I have a lot of burgandy and cream accents. My room at my great-grandmother's house has pale pink walls and is very bright and sunny. My room for the weekends at my aunt's house are black and red, I have a floral comforter that matches perfectly and I have two Doctor Who posters up on my walls. :)

-What do you feel like eating now?
An ice cream sundae with hot fudge, nuts, caramel and whipped cream! I'm so bad.
I've actually got to make dinner soon: sweet & sour meatballs and veggies over rice. Yum!

Rules:
Answer the questions

Ask ten questions
...and that's it!
