Another Period Musical Lyrics Quiz

Photo Bonus Question - What musical is this photo from?
Game are back! The last Period Musical Lyrics Quiz I had was so well received and since I've been into listening to songs from musicals this week I thought it was high time for a second quiz of this type.

To Play: Read the lyrics below and try to guess the song title and which musical each selection comes from. Leave your guesses in a comment and I'll reply with your score. Guess as many times as you wish. Answers will be posted next Saturday.

Scoring: One point will be awarded for each correctly guessed song title and musical title. One bonus point will be awarded for each correctly guessed book title and character name on the two Bonus Songs (#13 and #14). Also two bonus points will be awarded for correctly guessing the musical for the Photo Bonus Question above. Highest possible score is 30 points.

Bonus Points Songs
These next two songs are ones I don't think many of you will have heard before but they both come from musicals of well known Jane Austen books. Based on reading the lyrics what novels do they come from and which main character is singing the song?

#13
Fine eyes
She has fine eyes
Full of mystical charms
The kind of fine eyes
That illumine her face
And a figure
Light and pleasing
Full of feminine grace
That begs me to embrace
And keep her safe in my arms

I long to tell her my feelings
I yearn to give her my heart
And share the dream I'm concealing
But how can I tell her when we are apart?

And those fine eyes
Clever brown eyes
Have a will of their own
Why do they hypnotize?
They never leave me alone.

#14
Why do I stand
Mute as a post
Trembling hand
Pale as a ghost
So many things I should tell her
Before she goes away
Stomach and head
All in a bind
Leaving unsaid
All of the things I should say
Only a few more hours
Till you are gone for good
I'd lay my heart before you
If I could

If I could I would tell you
How the last three weeks
Have made me understand
What it means to have a friend
If I could I would tell you
How I wish our time together
Would go on and on
And never end
If I could I would take your precious hand
And I'd bring it to my lips
And I'd let my feelings show
If I could I would get down on my knees
And I'd beg you not to go.
Don't go!

Have fun! :)

Ooh, YAY! Games are back!
#3 - Hushaby Mountain - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
#5 - Spoon Full of Sugar - Mary Poppins
#7 - Good Mornin' - Singin' in the Rain
It was a lot of fun, but annoyingly I couldn't see what the picture was, as it would not load on my computer. Oh well, it was SO much fun to do anyway!

Eeeeeeee! I enjoyed the other musical game so much, I'm thrilled that you're hosting another!

I can't seem to view the picture at the top. :(

1-Easter Parade, maybe? I haven't seen this so that's just a random guess. :P
2- ?
3- ?
4- A Bushel and a Peck from Guys and Dolls
5- A Spoonful of Sugar from Mary Poppins
6- America from West Side Story (heehee, we were singing this in the car yesterday!) These are the movie lyrics--have you heard the original Broadway lyrics? They're very funny too!
7- Good Morning from Singing in the Rain
8- Consider Yourself from Oliver!
9- The Trolley Song from Meet Me in St. Louis
10- ?
11- Tomorrow from Annie
12- Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast
13- Hmmm... I think there's a musical of Pride and Prejudice, so I'll go with that! And it would definitely be Mr. Darcy singing. :D
14- I've only heard a few songs from the Jane Eyre musical but I'm guessing this is from that, and it must be Mr. Rochester. :D

Jemimah,
Thanks for the nice welcome, it's so much fun putting together the games, I forgot how much I missed it!

Sorry about the photo, I've fixed it now!

You correctly guessed #3, #5 and #7 giving you 6 points. Good job!

If you have any other guesses feel free to send them along! :)

Miss Laurie of Old-Fashioned Charm said...

Miss Dashwood,
So glad you're excited about this game! I got so many responses last time that I knew I had to do another of these quizzes! And with so many songs there's a lot of material to work with!

I've fixed the picture at the top (I was being lazy earlier and used a URL).

You guessed the correct songs and musicals for numbers 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12! Unfortunately #1 was a missed guess.
And you did correctly guess the right novel and character on #13 (how could it be anything else, heehee!) but #14 was incorrect (but a genius guess!). Btw I changed the Bonus Points Songs to say that they both some from Jane Austen novels.

Your total score is...18 points!

No, I've never heard the Broadway lyrics for #6 (or I might have, they might be on a CD I have and I'm just not remembering correctly). I've never actually seen #6 but I have an anniversary recording of the songs and included it for certain young ladies who seem to count it a favorite! :)

Miss Laurie of Old-Fashioned Charm said...

Kiri Liz,
I'm glad you enjoy these Musical Lyrics Quizzes! :)

Your guess on the photo is correct! Also you correctly guessed the songs and musicals for #3, #5, #7, #8, #9 (correct blank, it's actually called The _____ Song so I'll give it to you), #11 and #12. Also the correct song title on #4 (many don't remember the musical). And you guessed the correct novel and character for #13! Good work!

Your total score is 17 points! :)

Seven brides for seven brothers! That was fun.

Ummm.... should I even BOTHER with this? Sigh. Okay. I will. But it will be mortifying. ;)

The picture is, I think, from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

3 might be from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
5 would be A Spoonful of Sugar from Mary Poppins. Heehee.
I must say, #9 sounds perfectly ridiculous.... ahem. :P

Okay, so the Jane Austen songs... 13 must be Pride and Prejudice, sung by Mr. Darcy. Heeheehee.
14, I do not know. But I'll take a wild, leaping guess and say Edward Ferrars in Sense and Sensibility. (??)

New follower chiming in...
I was raised on musicals as a kid, so I thought this game was going to be easy, but I was woefully mistaken.
I think I guessed a few of them, but not any of the characters singing them, unfortunately.
The top photo is from "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers."
#7 is Good Morning!, and I saw it on "Singin' In The Rain," but it's probably from another movie.
#9 is Trolley.
#11 is Tomorrow from "Annie"
#12 is Be Our Guest from "Beauty and the Beast"
#13 looks like something from Pride and Prejudice.

I'm sure I'd recognize the rest if I heard them, but that's all I've got for now. Fun Game!
