Words Of Thanksgiving

To be honest I wasn't sure if I'd do a Thanksgiving Day post this November.
Oh yes, there is so much  for me to be thankful for this year with our safe move, our new house and a wonderful job for my dad. But somehow without people to gather with for dinner, or a church family to call our own, it's been a bit hard for me to thank the Lord right now.
But over this past week I kept encountering things that have a similar message for my heart: Praise and thank the Lord even when you don't feel like it, because He is worthy!

I'm not sure if anyone else feels the same way I do but I wanted to share some of the things that have been encouraging my heart lately.

Gorgeous November wallpapers like these posted at Faith Hope and Cherrytea. I've greatly enjoyed using these on my laptop over the past few weeks!

These verses have been a big encouragement and perfect for meditating on throughout the day:
"Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation." - Psalm 111:1

"Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name." - Psalm 100:4

"Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise." - Psalm 98:4

There's been a few hymns that have really been encouraging lately:

We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;
He chastens and hastens His will to make known.
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.
Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own.

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

This article from Young Ladies Christian Fellowship (YLCF):

"I think when faced with celebrating a holiday in a way that doesn’t fit our expectations, we need to go back to the essence of the holiday. What are we really celebrating? Why do we have this day?" - from When Holidays Don't Follow The Recipe by Trina Holden at YLCF

And lastly for a bit of fun, this hilarious retelling of the First Thanksgiving Day story from Kid Snippets:

Their description of England totally cracks me up. "You dance with balls?"

"Plastic hasn't even been invented yet!"

"What about corn!?!?!?" hahaha :)

I pray that all of you dear friends and readers have a very Happy Thanksgiving full of reminders of just how much you have been blessed by God. May His praises be on your lips and His joy in your hearts.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

No Film Review This Week

I just wanted to let you all know that there won't be a film review this week as I've been rather occupied this week. But be on the look out of a review next week.

Meanwhile I'd direct your attention to my previous review of An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving, it's one of my favorite films to watch each Thanksgiving!

And there's one more day to play the Screencap Game - Thanksgiving Tables. I'll be posting the answers tomorrow!

Hope you're having a great Thanksgiving weekend!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

With Thanksgiving tomorrow and Christmas right around the corner, this is the time of year when I really take time to thank the Lord for all of His many blessings.

Let me share with you some of the things I'm thankful for and a few of my favorite hymns of Thanksgiving.

I'm thankful for our Creator God who sent His only Son to take the punishment for my sins.
By His grace I am forgiven, His mercy never fails.
I'm thankful that the Lord for daily directing my way.

Give thanks to God, for good is He, His grace abideth ever;
To Him all praise and glory be, His mercy faileth never.
His wondrous works with praise record, His grace abideth ever;
The only God, the sovereign Lord, whose mercy faileth never.

I'm thankful for the many loving family and friends who surround me.
I'm very thankful for my special blogging friends. You all encourage and inspire me to keep writing, reading and learning interesting things!

We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;
He chastens and hastens His will to make known.
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.
Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own.

I'm thankful to live in a country where my family and I can worship the Lord freely.
I'm thankful to have been raised in a Christian home and to had the privileged of being home schooled.

Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home;
All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin.
God our Maker doth provide for our wants to be supplied;
Come to God’s own temple, come, raise the song of harvest home.

I'm thankful that God not only provides everything I need but also delights in giving other good gifts.
I'm thankful for all of the extra blessings he daily bestows.

O render thanks to God above,
The fountain of eternal love,
Whose mercy firm through ages past
Hath stood, and shall forever last.

We have so much to be thankful for!

Somedays we forget - To look around us
Somedays we can't see - The joy that surrounds us
So caught up inside ourselves - We take when we should give.

So for tonight we pray for - What we know can be.
And on this day we hope for - What we still can't see.
It's up to us to be the change - And even though we all can still do more
There's so much to be thankful for.

I'm praying that each of you have a very Happy Thanksgiving with your family and friends.

What are you thankful for this year?

Screencap Game - Thanksgiving Tables

An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving
Because Thanksgiving is just next week I thought it might be fun to have a game with the theme of friends and family joining together for a meal. Here are photos of 12 heavily laden tables each from a different period drama (a few might be different adaptations of the same story).

Guess which period dramas these screencaps are from (and maybe who is sitting at the tables) and put your answers in a comment. I'll reply with your score and publish your comments later.
Feel free to guess as many times as you wish!
